Beating around the bush

All situations, characters and incidents are imaginary and any sort of resemblance to your experiences is pure hallucination on your part :)

Employee: You always stated me as one of the assets to the company and I deliver more than what you expect. Then why during the appraisal review you only give the average rating though internally you know IT’S NOT.
TL: You are always the great employee to have in our company. I never doubt your skills what you possess. I understand that you deserve more rating. So take this as an opportunity to show that you are best asset to our company.
Employee (:-S) : You mean, what more are you expecting !!!
TL : Hmmm… Good question, explore in and around your work. I’m sure you will come with some innovative idea where we can optimize our effort in the company.  We will project these values to the higher management and get you the required rating.
Employee: Last year, when I built an induction documents for the new joiners, you stated me that it was part of my work. And these documents are used across the different teams. When I built these documents in spare time though it was not part of my work you stated me that it was part of my work. Under these conditions how will I be assured that my additional efforts will not go into vain?
 TL : No No Nooo, never get into that opinion. Your works are always respected. Those documents are always given credit to your work.
Employee: Then why is it not given good rating
TL: I wanted you to perform more. Let me explain you, You know Parasurama(Hindu Mythological character)?
Employee: Yes
TL : Throughout the world he was respected as one of great icon. All godly beings appreciated him. But his father never appreciated him. One day Parasurama in revengeful attitude, wanted to teach his father a lesson, a good lesson. So he was hiding in his house and waiting for his father to come. When his father came, his mother received him with great delight. Asked his father why he never appraised his son when all celestial creatures worship him. To this his father …with politeness …stated that if everyone starts appraising he will stop performing better. So if I don’t appreciate he keeps up the good spirit of winning.
Employee: This is good for stories not on reality. This is life where I need many things to survive.
TL: We shouldn’t worry about the fruits, just work, success follows you later.
Employee: Come on I can’t get such low hikes and asking me to wait for success. It looks as though I’m not along with the market standards.
TL: See this where you need to stop comparing. Everyone will be given with different salary structure. You shouldn’t compare your salary with the guy who is getting higher salary.
Employee : Ok, then with respect to my experience do you think my salary is justifiable
TL : Don’t see whether its justifiable, there are many people outside who are just waiting to get this salary. We are lucky to have this job.
Employee: It’s not a social service company where I’m working. I anticipate some benefits for my work. Please make sure I’m in par with market standards.
TL : Yeah I agree but upper management thinks that you were not up to mark.
Employee: You mean…
TL : Hmmmm….. Upper management feels you’re not good at time management
Employee: How did they conclude that?
TL : You leave office around 9:30. So it looks as though you are unable to finish your work and you always need a extra time
Employee: I  go out for lunch outside and it takes me around one hour, since I’m involved with companies event organizing team, I work with them every day at least for an hour, above that I come to office at 11. I don’t feel it is reasonable if I don’t work at least for eight hours.
TL: This cannot be considered by upper management. Then only feel there is some difficult for you to complete the job on time. Be a smart worker. Finish your work within couple of hours and enjoy your spare time.
Employee: Do you think it’s good to send my results without any proper evaluation.
TL: It’s not like that. Be efficient, finish your task quickly, give importance to critical part of the quality work and enjoy your spare time with your family.
Employee( :@) : I enjoy my spare time with my family on early morning hours. But please don’t say that I’m not managing time correctly. If particular project requires 4 hours, I have given that 4 hours.
TL: See, this where you land into trouble. Finish within 3 hours and enjoy for an hour.
Employee: This is followed by everyone. But no one reports that project was finished quickly.
TL: I know but you are a hard worker. I want you to be a smart worker.
Employee: Hard worker and smart worker are just a terms to spoil the appraisal. I’m sure, there are no such guy, so called SMART WORKER in the company.
TL: It’s according to perceived values. Look at your fellow colleague everyday he leaves office at 5:30. 
Employee: So you feel leaving early from office is the definition of smart worker. It’s not how you finish the work.
TL: Unfortunately upper management feels that.
Employee: Then you should change that view.
TL: Let’s forget whatever upper management feels we will do something innovative so that you will have good rating in coming years.
